Cardback Suggests: Price Impact of India’s Union Budget 2013 on Credit / Debit Card Users

Our country’s union budget for 2013 was announced last week. So, here we have a very easy to read (and refer-to) list of things that will become expensive and cheaper starting next month.

These things will become cheaper:

  1. Gems and Jewellery: 8% cheaper
  2. Leather products: 2.5% cheaper
  3. Apparel: 3% cheaper
  4. Home Furnishings: 0% excise duty
  5. Branded non-allopathic medicines: 35% less excise duty
  6. Imported Hazulnuts: 20% cheaper

These things will become expensive:

  1. Mobile Phones and Smartphones: 5% expensive (costing more than ₹2000)
  2. Set-top Boxes: 5% expensive
  3. Air Conditioned restaurants that don’t serve liquor: additional 12% service tax
  4. Parking: additional 12% service tax
  5. Cigarettes and Cigars: 2% expensive
  6. SUVs: 3% expensive
  7. Imported Cars and Motorcycles: upto 25% additional excise duty
  8. Imported Silk: 10% extra customs duty

We have not listed many items here on purpose, because they do not affect end-users and card users like us in our day-to-day lives.

So, in a nutshell, a lot of things we deal with everyday, and use our cards to pay for will get expensive very soon. But fret not, Cardback will help you save money even on those items that have become more expensive. Stay tuned! :)
