Our country’s union budget for 2013 was announced last week. So, here we have a very easy to read (and refer-to) list of things that will become expensive and cheaper starting next month.
These things will become cheaper:
- Gems and Jewellery: 8% cheaper
- Leather products: 2.5% cheaper
- Apparel: 3% cheaper
- Home Furnishings: 0% excise duty
- Branded non-allopathic medicines: 35% less excise duty
- Imported Hazulnuts: 20% cheaper
These things will become expensive:
- Mobile Phones and Smartphones: 5% expensive (costing more than ₹2000)
- Set-top Boxes: 5% expensive
- Air Conditioned restaurants that don’t serve liquor: additional 12% service tax
- Parking: additional 12% service tax
- Cigarettes and Cigars: 2% expensive
- SUVs: 3% expensive
- Imported Cars and Motorcycles: upto 25% additional excise duty
- Imported Silk: 10% extra customs duty
We have not listed many items here on purpose, because they do not affect end-users and card users like us in our day-to-day lives.
